Welcome to Week 5 in our DCI Imperialism Map Project! If you are new to this series, we strongly encourage you to read the introduction first to get an understanding of the project and how it will be structured.

IT'S FINALS WEEK!!!

Just like that, we're 90% of the way through another season of drum corps and quickly approaching an exciting conclusion. Championships already kick off tonight and tomorrow with Open Class Championships in Marion, IN before World Championships kick off on Thursday at Lucas Oil Stadium with prelims. By the end of Saturday, we will crown our new 2024 Champion, our first ever All Age Class Champion and put a bow on the 2024 season.

The last full week of regular season competition saw a ton of action with focus mainly on the northeast. World Class only saw eight competitive shows throughout the week after shows in Egg Harbor Township on Wednesday and Allentown on Saturday were cancelled due to inclement weather. Despite this, six different corps won shows, headlined by Colts who passed and defeated The Cavaliers in three consecutive shows, including in Rochester on Saturday to secure their second win of the season. Bluecoats continued their undefeated streak, winning three shows and cushioning their lead to 15 shows and 709 counties controlled.

Open Class saw similar levels of parity with the week’s six competitions won by four different corps. Columbians returned to tour and won their first show since July 8th, while The Battalion picked up momentum to win two shows, their first win since July 13th. Spartans still remain in control, picking up two wins of their own to maintain their lead with 13 show wins and 1295 counties controlled. Focus will be on Marion today and tomorrow when Blue Devils B return to Open Class Championships and look to be the corps that will most likely challenge Spartans for this year’s Open Class title.

Five different corps won the five different All Age class shows this week as Hurricanes and Columbus Saints each picked up their first show wins of the season. Reading Buccaneers won on Sunday to remain undefeated and stay tied with Cincinnati Tradition with five show wins, however Atlanta CV leads the class with 272 counties controlled. World Championships will welcome All Age Class for the first time ever this year, as the 13 corps will compete for the title on Saturday morning.

Below is a break down of where the maps for each class stand after the fifth week, as well lists of each show and their show winners, and total number of shows and counties won by each corps.

Looking Ahead to Week 6

To reiterate the first sentence of this blog post - IT'S FINALS WEEK!!! Open and All Age Classes have concluded their regular seasons and only championship events remain on their schedules. However a trio of World Class shows are taking place tonight, headlined by the always popular Innovations in Brass in Canton, OH hosted by the Bluecoats. All eyes will be on that event featuring the current top 5 corps as they look to make a final statement before heading to Indianapolis. After Open Class Championships on Tuesday and a final rehearsal day for everyone on Wednesday, World Championships kick off on Thursday with every corps in competition in prelims. After that.....buckle in for an incredible three days of World Championships!
