
Milestones from the 2024 WGI Winds World Championships
In our third and final part of our Milestones series, we take a look the accomplishments achieved at the 2024 WGI Winds World Championships two weeks ago. The finals competition put a perfect bow on the 2024 WGI season as 34 groups amongst the six classes performed in the University of Dayton Arena for the last time this year.
Congratulations to all on a fantastic season! Below are some milestones and facts about by the champions, medalists, and finalists at the 2024 WGI Winds World Championships.
Class Champions & Medalists
Independent World:
1st place: STRYKE Wynds (FL) - third championship and eight medal in all classes (IW champions in 2023 and IO champions in 2016)
2nd place: Horizon Winds (FL) - fifth medal in all classes
3rd place: Vaquero Winds (TX) - fourth medal in Independent World
Scholastic World:
1st place: Avon HS (IN) - fifth championship in Scholastic World (champions in 2023, 2022, 2017, 2016)
2nd place: Cleveland HS (NC) - seventh medal in Scholastic World
3rd place: Westfield HS (IN) - second medal in all classes
Independent Open:
1st place: Valhalla Winds (OH) - first championship and second medal in Independent Open
2nd place: Eva Independent Winds (NC) - second medal in all classes
3rd place: Evidence from William Carey University (MS) - third medal in all classes
Scholastic Open:
1st place: Catawba Ridge HS (SC) - first championship and medal in all classes
2nd place: Daviess County HS (KY) - fourth medal in all classes
3rd place: Miamisburg HS (OH) - third medal in Scholastic Open
Independent A:
1st place: Ethereal Winds (TX) - first championship and second medal in Independent A
2nd place: Kent City Indoor Winds (MI) - first medal in all classes
3rd place: Vortex Indoor Winds (NY) - third medal in Independent A
Scholastic A:
1st place: Valley Christian HS (CA) - fourth championship in all classes (SA champions in 2019, 2017; IA champions in 2018)
2nd place: Ben Davis HS (IN) - first medal in all classes
3rd place: Mt. Juliet HS (TN) - second medal in all classes

Miscellaneous facts:
With their finals score of 97.525, Stryke Wynds broke the record for highest score in all Independent classes. The previous record was held by Rhythm X Winds who scored a 97.475 in Independent World finals in 2018. Stryke Winds also joined Rhythm X as becoming the only group to win multiple championships in Independent World.
Avon won their third consecutive championship in Scholastic World and fifth overall. In doing so, they became the first winds group ever to win five total championships. Although they didn’t break their own record score of 99.170, they scored higher than a 98 for the third consecutive season and remain the only winds group to have ever surpassed a 98.
Valhalla Winds won Independent Open in only their second year as a finalist and also became the first group from Ohio to win the class.
Catawba Ridge advanced to Scholastic Open finals for the second time and remains as the only winds group from South Carolina to be a finalist in any class. Their championship is the first won by a group from the state.
Ethereal Winds won their second consecutive medal and first championship in Independent A. They became the first group from Texas to win a championship in the class and the seventh different group to win Independent A out of eight total World Championships.
Valley Chrisitan took home their third medal in Scholastic A, the most in the class all time. With four championships total, they remain the only group from California to have won a championship in any class.
